miss scarlette

teacher

Scarlette Kerr (MM, NCTM) moved to Winston-Salem from her native state of Virginia in 2018 to pursue a Master of Music degree in Piano Performance and Pedagogy with an Emphasis in Injury-Preventive Keyboard Technique at Salem College. After graduating in May 2020, Scarlette and her family decided to settle in Winston-Salem and she started her piano studio, Music at 906, from her home.

Scarlette received her Bachelor of Music from James Madison University in Piano Performance with an emphasis in Accompanying. While in Virginia, Scarlette was active as an accompanist, teacher, choral singer, and music director. In Winston-Salem, she is a member of the Piedmont Chamber Singers, is an active teacher and clinician with other organizations in Winston-Salem, and also occasionally performs with fellow pianists in the community.

As a music teacher, Scarlette draws from the work of Edwin E. Gordon and his Music Learning Theory and prioritizes “audiation” as an essential skill in learning how to make music, whether through singing, or through an instrument.

Scarlette is devoted to the development of children’s music learning from infancy through formal music lessons, and is super excited to a part of the Half-Pint Harmonies team!

miss ashley

teacher

Ms. Ashley is a dance and music instructor with more than nine years of teaching experience, and a passion for early-childhood education. She loves bringing imagination, creativity, and silliness into her classroom, and encourages parents and students to do the same! Ashley is a North Carolina native and although performing arts have always been her first love, she has a degree in English Literature and creative writing from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. She has performed at festivals, workshops, and theaters around the state, and is currently the lead singer for a funk-blues-rock band based in Charlotte. When Ashley isn't teaching, she is usually working on her picture book manuscript, photographing pretty things in nature, or spending time with her six younger siblings.

Miss Ashley has been with Half-Pint Harmonies since 2018.
